The Final Countdown - What's Happening in Youth Group?

We're down to the last month of youth group and we’re excited to be preparing for our Youth Sunday Service on May 13, which will close the year for youth and children’s formation. We will celebrate our graduating seniors that day so hope to see all of them here! We are really encouraging as many youth as possible to be at youth group the next four weeks to help us prepare for Youth Sunday. Here are all the dates that you need to know:

This week, April 15: Fr Broderick will lead us in an Instructed Eucharist in St Martin’s Chapel during formation hour, 9:15-10:15. Following, because they will have already worshiped, youth are invited to walk together to Pablo’s on Pennsylvania for coffee, tea, hot cocoa etc and pastries. We did ask youth who are scheduled to serve at the 10:30 to try to find a substitute, but of course if they prefer to stay and serve we support them wholeheartedly! We will be back before the end of the service, and looking at the weather report, will meet families on All Souls’ Walk.

Sunday, April 22: Youth will spend formation learning about the form in the Book of Common Prayer for the Prayers of the People, and then begin writing their own Prayers of the People for use at the Youth Sunday Service. This is an important opportunity to have our kids’ voices heard! (Those of us away at Quest will have a chance to weigh in the following week, when we finalize the prayers.)

Sunday, April 29: Youth in the Wilderness We will gather at 4:30 in the youth room to finish the prayer and spend some time engaging with the scripture readings - and their relevance to us, here, today - for May 13, then worship together at the Wilderness at 6. We will have snacks but will not serve dinner.

Sunday, May 6: We will put whatever finishing touches are needed for the service, and also spend time preparing thank you's for all of our dedicated youth volunteers. Youth who have volunteered to read on May 13 will have a chance to practice.

Sunday, May 13: Celebratory breakfast during the 9:15-10:15 formation time, then Youth Sunday service at 10:30. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to let me know!

AND SAVE THE DATE… The Young Episcopalians in Service (YES) Denver JUICE Mission is here at St John’s (fully immersive, including spending the night here), JULY 22 4pm-JULY 27 12pm. We hope to have a lot of SJC youth here to represent our parish and our city! Contact me for more information!

In Peace,
Tina Clark
